If you are currently taking any of the following medications, do not take turmeric or curcumin as a medicine without first talking to your healthcare provider.
Blood thinners: Tumeric can make these drugs more effective and increase the risk of bleeding. Blood thinners include warfarin (Coumadin), clopidogrel (Plavix), and aspirin.
Medicines that reduce stomach acid: Turmeric interferes with the action of these medicines and increases the production of stomach acid.
Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Famotidine (Pepcid)
Ranitidine (Zantac)
Esomeprazole (Nexium)
Omeprazole
Lansoprazole (Prevacid)
Diabetes medications (lowers blood sugar): Turmeric may increase the effect of these medications and increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
