If you are currently taking any of the following medications, do not take turmeric or curcumin as a medicine without first talking to your healthcare provider.
Blood thinners: Tumeric can make these drugs more effective and increase the risk of bleeding. Blood thinners include warfarin (Coumadin), clopidogrel (Plavix), and aspirin.
Medicines that reduce stomach acid: Turmeric interferes with the action of these medicines and increases the production of stomach acid.
Diabetes medications (lowers blood sugar): Turmeric may increase the effect of these medications and increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
